Taking Advantage of Cyber-Scammers After Microsoft Windows Crash

Phnom Penh — IT scammers have significantly increased their attacks, exploiting a global crash of Microsoft Windows due to a recent update involving CrowdStrike software. The scammers are using various methods, including phone calls, emails, and text messages with links to fake websites, recommending the download of software or requesting remote access to restore affected computers. This surge in cyber-attacks was highlighted in an announcement by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications on Tuesday, July 23.

The Ministry emphasized the importance of vigilance against these scams. Users are urged to carefully scrutinize links in emails or messages and verify the authenticity of the sources before clicking on any suspicious links or downloading software. Granting remote access to unknown sources should also be strictly avoided to prevent unauthorized control of devices.

To stay informed and secure, the Ministry advises users to consult the "Computer Emergency Response Office (CamCERT)" under the Department of Security, Communication, and Information Technology of the Ministry. Further information can be accessed on the CamCERT website at [www.camcert.gov.kh](http://www.camcert.gov.kh). Additionally, users can report incidents or request technical assistance via email at incident@camcert.gov.kh or by calling 023 722 391 or 016 851 678.
